Appreciate We Have the Incredible Opportunity to Get Fit

I read this motivation today and I could not have penned it better myself, especially during the holiday season .  We lose sight of what an incredible opportunity we have to get fit and instead of looking at it as a burden, we should be spilling over with thankfulness.  Do you have a working body?  I do, and although I may have some medical limitations, it has taught me to appreciate what I can do with what I have. Do we really have a right to sit and complain about how difficult getting healthy is when others can't even lift from a wheelchair?  We live in a stressed up world and most of the time self-induced with all the busy stuff that keeps us away from the important things in life.  Getting fit and healthy is a privilege just the same as growing older.  If our mindset is not screwed on right, we will make a mess of what life is all about, including how to treat our bodies. Instead of looking at meal prep to keep you on track with your fitness goals as...

The whole "dad bod" thing

Have you heard the term dad bod? I had heard rumblings but I looked into it further when Kaitlyn Bristowe (the latest Bachelorette) remarked to my beloved People magazine that she didn’t want a mate with the “dad bod”. Even as someone who feel looks matter and fitness definitely matters my “uh oh antennae” activated. OK so first this “dad bod” term. Dad bod is said to be coined by college student Mackenzie Pearson. At least she’s credited with it but she also says her friends had been using the descriptor so I can’t be sure. Who really cares? What’s interesting is that “dad bod” refers to a man “with a nice balance of a beer gut and working out.” Basically, a guy with a normal body. I cannot even for a minute imagine if “mom bod” was used. I think of mom jeans and a total backlash “this has nothing to do with having kids” etc. As usual, I digress. The truth is I think dad bod has been widely accepted for a long time. Washboard abs are not on many women’s list of requirements especially...

A not-super-fit looking yoga teacher may have solved all your problems

Friday, I ventured back to yoga for the first time in two years. Way back when, yoga and I didn’t have a casual relationship. I joined Pure Yoga (membership based = unlimited classes) and approached yoga the way I do all things- obsessively. I swung toward hot yoga, sweat buckets and was even known to frontload my yoga with a run. I enjoyed the yoga, the music, the dark-ish room and eventually could bind and contort into some of the more difficult poses. However, this was not a mind/body journey for me. It was a body, body journey where I tracked by progress versus the yogi aficionados in the room and looked for physical evidence of yoga strengthening me. Simply put I didn’t get it. I questioned if I was sweating more than strengthening and defected back to barre classes as soon as they were offered. Recently (some of you have commented on my posts) I have been more aware of my need for “mind” work. I always suggest it for others and believe in it. And one can only give so much money ...

REASONS DO NOT ACHIEVE RESULTS

The truth about health and fitness is that we either want it or we don’t.  Let’s face it, we can all come up with reasons not to exercise today or pack our coolers with healthy food to have on hand.  All the reasons in the world are excuses that will eventually catch up to us in the form of illness or injury.  That also is the truth.  What we need to understand is that our lifestyle is our medicine, and that includes what we eat and how we move and rest our bodies.   We can’t continue to walk around in a state of un-health and believe that this is an acceptable existence.  Looking and feeling our best is what we all want, dream about, and talk about, but the action to make it happen never seems to occur.  Look at what is flooding our magazines, commercials, and television shows when it comes to getting healthy.  We need to be living the reality shows of achieving our best body not sitting in front of the tube with our chips watching other peo...

Body tricks

SOME SPECTACULAR TRICKS FOR YOUR BODY ! (Someone shared it with me)  If you've got an itch in your throat, scratch your ear. When the nerves in the ear get stimulated, they create a reflex in the throat that causes a muscle spasm, which cures the itch. Having trouble hearing someone at a party or on the phone? Use your right ear it's better at picking up rapid speech. But, the left is better at picking up music tones.  Clear a stuffed nose or relieve sinus pressure by pushing your tongue against the roof of your mouth then pressing a finger between your eyebrows. Repeat that for 20 seconds it causes the vomer bone to rock, which loosens your congestion and clears you up.  If you ate a big meal and you're feeling full as you go to sleep, lay on your left side. That'll keep you from suffering from acid  re-flux  it keeps your stomach lower than your esophagus,...
